Chat lives under Communications → Chat. As the app frames it: "chat is the front door; the records are the rooms."
Direct messages and groups
  • New message starts a one-to-one DM (reused if you've messaged before, so history stays put).
  • New group (managers) creates a group with an Audience that keeps itself current: Chosen people only, Everyone in the workspace, A team, An access profile, or A Smart Group. Pick "A team" and anyone who joins that team is automatically in the chat — "Computed audiences keep membership current."
There are also subject threads — the comment conversation attached to a job, site, vehicle, asset or defect; posting in one auto-joins you.
Sending
Type in Write a message and Send. You can attach a Photo or File (up to 25 MB), record a Voice note, @mention someone (they get their own notification), react with an emoji, pin or mute a conversation, and edit or delete your own messages.
Promote to record
The most powerful move: Promote to record turns a message into something actionable —
  • Raise as issue — starts a defect (report → review → close).
  • Attach to a job as a note — copies it into the job's history.
  • Save attachment as evidence — keeps the photo/file against the job.
  • Raise as request — routes it to the people who can action it.
So a photo dropped in chat can become a defect with evidence in two taps.
Who can do what
Anyone can DM and post in conversations they're in. Creating groups and moderating (renaming, managing members, deleting others' messages, changing the group photo) needs the Manage chat permission or a per-conversation owner/admin role.
Tip: for anything that needs to happen, promote it. A message scrolls away; a promoted issue, note or request stays on the record with its author and time.
